DaVinci IQ Core Review: The Dry Herb Vaporizer I Keep Reaching For
If you've been around Maiden Magick for a while, you already know how I do things. If something isn't worth recommending, I don't recommend it. The DaVinci IQ Core more than made the cut.
If you’re Googling “DaVinci IQ Core review” trying to figure out whether this portable dry herb vaporizer is worth your money, here’s the honest version, written by someone who’s actually spent time using it.

First Impressions: I Was Plum Speechless
The first thing that caught my eye was the color.
Plumstone is a deep, moody purple with a brushed stone-like finish that feels more like a thoughtfully designed object than another piece of tech. It looks perfectly at home sitting on a nightstand next to a candle and a well-loved book instead of tucked away in a drawer.
It's also surprisingly compact. It slips easily into a purse without forcing you to reorganize everything else, and it's just as happy disappearing into a jacket pocket when you're heading out.
The build quality immediately stood out, too. Nothing rattles, nothing feels flimsy, and it has that satisfying weight that makes it feel like something designed to last rather than something you'll replace in a year.
My Favorite Features
The Flavor
This was probably the biggest surprise.
I've tried a handful of dry herb vaporizers over the years, and this is easily one of the cleanest-tasting ones I've used. Instead of that slightly burnt, "warm electronics" taste that can happen with cheaper devices, the IQ Core lets the flavor of your flower actually come through.
The zirconia and glass airpath definitely deserve some credit here, but honestly, you don't have to understand the engineering to notice the difference. It simply tastes cleaner.
I also appreciated how consistent it stayed throughout a session. Some vaporizers start strong and then quickly lose their flavor after the first few draws. The IQ Core held onto it much longer, making the whole experience feel smoother and more enjoyable from start to finish.
It's one of those features that's hard to appreciate until you've experienced it yourself, and it's a big part of why I keep reaching for this one.
Cleaning the DaVinci IQ Core is genuinely easy
There's an onboard pick tool built right into the device, so you're never digging through a drawer looking for something to clean it with. Most of the time, a quick brush and a few seconds with the pick are all it takes to keep everything in good shape.
When it's time for a deeper clean, the removable parts come apart easily and wipe down without much fuss. I never found myself dreading the maintenance, which honestly says a lot. A vaporizer that's easy to clean is a vaporizer you're actually going to keep using.
It's a small quality-of-life feature, but after using it for a while, it's one of those thoughtful details I really came to appreciate.
The Removable Battery
This ended up being one of my favorite features.
So many vaporizers in this price range leave you tethered to a charging cable while you wait. With the IQ Core, you can simply swap in another charged 18650 battery and keep going while the depleted one charges separately.
Even if you don't plan on buying a spare battery right away, there's something reassuring about knowing you can replace it down the road instead of replacing the entire vaporizer. It's a small detail that adds convenience today and helps extend the life of the device for years to come.
It's one of those features you don't think much about until you've lived with it for a while, and now I wouldn't want to go back.
Use It While It Charges
One of the nice conveniences is that you don't have to stop using the IQ Core just because the battery is low. It supports pass-through charging, so if you're near a USB-C cable, you can keep using it while it charges.
Fast Heat-Up
The DaVinci IQ Core heats up in around 30-60 seconds depending on your temperature.
You load it, press the button, and by the time you’ve settled into the couch, it’s ready.
Smart Path Temperature Modes
Instead of constantly adjusting temperatures throughout a session, Smart Path gradually increases the heat automatically. If you prefer complete control, you can also set an exact temperature yourself.
I found myself using the lower settings when I wanted to slow down and really enjoy the flavor, then bumping things up toward the end of a session with Boost Mode to finish things off.
Boost Mode
Holding the power button near the end of a session temporarily raises the temperature, helping you get the most out of whatever is left in the oven. I found it especially useful for finishing a session without stopping to adjust the temperature manually.
It’s a small feature, but one I ended up using regularly.
LED display
The LED grid is clean, minimal, and easy to read at a glance. It gives you the information you need without making the device feel cluttered or overly complicated.
Reverse Charging
In a pinch, the IQ Core can even double as a small power bank to give your phone a little extra juice. It's not a headline feature, but it's a genuinely useful bonus.
What to Know Before You Buy
Nothing’s perfect, so here’s what stood out.
It’s primarily designed for dry herb. You can use concentrates, but you’ll want the stainless steel dosage pods to do it properly.
The mouthpiece is ShareSafe antimicrobial polymer rather than glass. DaVinci reserves the fully glass mouthpiece for the IQ3. In everyday use, I honestly haven’t noticed much of a difference.
Charging takes around two hours. Fortunately, the removable battery makes this much less of an inconvenience if you keep a spare charged.
It goes through flower a little faster than some other vaporizers I've used. Whether that's because of the oven design or the airflow, I found myself refilling a bit more often. For me, the trade-off is worth it because the vapor quality is so good.
How It Compares to the Rest of the DaVinci Lineup
The premium flagship option with the fully glass mouthpiece and additional refinements.
It delivers a most excellent experience, especially for flower, while staying comfortably under $200 and fitting into a pocket or purse with ease.
Smaller, simpler, and ideal if portability is your top priority.
Designed for 510 cartridges rather than dry herb.
DaVinci's first foray into concentrates: a portable e-rig with a touchscreen and quartz heating system. A different category entirely from the dry herb devices above, but worth a mention if you're into dabbing too.
I’ll admit, using the IQ Core has made me curious about the IQ3. If this is what DaVinci offers at $199, I’m interested to see just how much of a difference the flagship model makes.
Who I’d Recommend This To
Buy this if:
You want a premium-feeling dry herb vaporizer without spending $300.
Flavor matters more to you than producing enormous clouds.
You appreciate products that are thoughtfully designed.
You want something that’s easy to use without reading a manual.
Maybe skip it if:
You mostly use concentrates.
You already own an IQ3 and are happy with it.
Making It Part of an Actual Ritual
One thing I didn't expect was how quickly the IQ Core became part of my everyday routine.
Some evenings it's paired with a good book and a cup of tea. Other nights it's while I'm winding down after work or sitting outside for a few quiet minutes before bed. Because it's so simple to use and doesn't require much maintenance, it never feels like a chore to pull out.
I think that's what I've come to appreciate most. The best products aren't always the ones with the longest feature lists. They're the ones you naturally keep reaching for because they fit so seamlessly into your life.
And that's exactly what the IQ Core has become for me.
The Verdict
I’ve reviewed enough products now to know when something earns a permanent place in my routine and when it quietly ends up in a drawer after the photos are taken.
The DaVinci IQ Core never made it to the drawer.
Weeks later, it’s still the vaporizer I instinctively reach for, and I think that says more than any list of specifications ever could.
Would I actually buy it with my own money?
Honestly, yes.
That’s probably the highest compliment I can give a gifted product. After a few weeks, I stop thinking about who sent it and start paying attention to whether I genuinely keep using it. The IQ Core passed that test.
If you’re looking for a thoughtfully designed portable dry herb vaporizer with exceptional flavor, easy maintenance, and a price that feels fair for what you’re getting, this is an easy recommendation.
