A Message from the Hermit: Lazy is the WORST 4 Letter Word.

 

The Hermit can, sometimes, get a bad rap.

She’s often mistaken for isolation, avoidance, or “laziness.” (We HATE that word with a fiery passion!) But that is not a balanced version of the Hermit.

She’s the part of you that notices when everything feels loud, when your nervous system is fried, when you’ve been pushing forward on fumes and coffee and calling it ‘discipline’. She’s the quiet voice tapping you on the shoulder saying, hey… calm down, tune in… ya feral, over caffeinated menace…

In balance, the Hermit doesn’t withdraw from life, she steps back within it. Her pause isn’t escape, it’s recalibration. She creates space not to disappear, but to listen. To notice what’s been drowned out by noise, pressure, and constant forward motion and demands of the world. When the Hermit is healthy, she isn’t hiding, she’s renewing.

The Hermit isn’t here to pull you out of the world. She’s here to help you flow more naturally within it.

And no, she doesn’t usually say it politely, disrespect the hermit long enough and she’ll definitely show you her dark side. (Depression, Anxiety, etc.)

Slowing down with the Hermit doesn’t mean stopping your life. It means tuning into what refills your cup, what’s actually going on with you internally, and learning to love and care for all the parts of yourself.

The Hermit exists because no human being is meant to operate in one mode all the time. We’re not built to be endlessly productive, endlessly social, endlessly available, or endlessly strong. A system that never pauses eventually breaks.

That’s why the Hermit is a universal archetype. She isn’t a personality type you either are or aren’t. She’s a function. The part of you responsible for slowing things down, taking stock, and preventing the rest of your inner world from burning itself to the ground.

When she’s missing or ignored, everything else suffers.

When she’s present and supported, the whole system works far more efficiently.

So how do you actually tune in to the Hermit…and more importantly, follow through?

You stop treating rest like a reward and start treating it like a necessity. Water, food, sleep, oxygen, RENEWAL. Self care isn’t just indulgence, certainly NOT laziness (😡), and definitely not an option! (Trust me, not worth fucking around and finding out on that one…)

Following through with the Hermit isn’t about not doing anything. It’s about checking in with all of your parts and making sure the whole fam is good. You wouldn’t neglect your best friend, your kid, a puppy, or even your awful cousin (we won’t point fingers… BECKY), so why would you neglect the parts living within you? haha! Gotcha!

Because darling, once you start seeing them that way, it’s nearly impossible not to love and take care of all the parts that make you, YOU.
